“I am a retired Army Ranger Master Sergeant who was seriously wounded in Iraq in October of 2006. During my tenure in the Army I spent it all in rapid deployment Airborne Infantry and Ranger units. I have always been in stellar shape and have a stubborn never quit attitude, which I credit to my survival. I suffered a penetrating head wound, collapsed lung, numerous shrapnel wounds to my back and chest from an Anti-Tank Grenade that struck my vehicle. After spending two months in the hospital and another two on home recovery I went back to work.
My pain was constant. Not only physically but emotionally. I was in chronic pain from jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, being wounded in combat, and being in highly stressful situations all the time.
I was asked if I had ever considered acupuncture while going through medical treatment in Houston, Texas. I was initially skeptical about the idea but decided to give it a try. After my first treatment I was sold. It was a painless procedure that made me feel at peace and incredibly relaxed not to mention pain free. I continued to go back to see Karen Siegel every week for 8 weeks while I was in Houston.
Karen Siegel of the Acupuncture and Nutrition clinic of Houston was caring and had an incredible bedside manor about her that made me feel even more comfortable and at ease about the procedure. She also provides a line of herbal supplements and nutritional counseling to heal your ailments.
Bottom line is that I highly recommend Karen Siegel as an acupuncturist. I strongly recommend this form of medicine for anyone in a high stress occupation or for anyone that has been through a traumatic experience for that matter. As a result of my experience at Acupuncture and Nutrition Clinic, I am continuing to pursue this treatment even though I have relocated.”

“I wish I could just say “KAREN IS THE BEST, THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.” but i understand, everyone has to find their match. I’m so glad I found you, Karen. Seriously, I hope you understand the magnitude in which you have touched my life. Thank you for everything. Love you lots.
Here’s my story abbreviated: I began therapy after a terrifying experience in the Eating Disorders program at a local hospital, where I was treated more like a prisoner than a person with an illness. At the time, I was pretty clueless about eating disorders. All I knew was that everybody kept telling me I had one. After my parents and I decided that being in the hospital was more harmful than beneficial to my psyche, they pulled me out of quarantine and put me into nutrition therapy. That’s when I began seeing Karen Siegel once a week to talk about my eating disorder—Anorexia.
Karen provided me with explanations and reasoning behind the disease that no one seemed to understand. Karen understood, and she helped me understand as well. She explained to me the concept of “fat feelings” and how they aren’t real feelings, but rather the mind overriding the body’s natural hunger cues. I learned to identify with these fat feelings and how to recognize, but not give in to them. Some of her tactics included food journaling, which was extremely helpful in determining my nutrition intake. Every week I would read from my journal what I had eaten, and we would decide whether it was enough or not enough. She recorded my weight every session, sometimes I would look and sometimes I wouldn’t, but she always left it up to me. My weight usually fluctuated from visit to visit, but Karen never reprimanded me for losing weight. She did not determine my progress according to my weight, since Anorexia is a psychological disorder and as she informed me that weight is usually the last thing to be normalized. After every session with Karen, I left with a feeling of insightfulness and hopefulness and ambition to beat this disease. I continued to see Karen over the course of three years, up until I moved to New York to go to college. If it had not been for my nutrition therapy sessions with Karen, I do not think I would have been prepared to go so far away from home on my own. Though dealing with Anorexia has been one of the biggest challenges of my life, it has strengthened me in many ways. Through therapy and nutrition counseling I have gained so much knowledge and insight. This experience has given me gifts that I know will be with me for the rest of my life.”

“To whom it may concern, I just wanted to write a little bit about my experience as a Dad who has gone through the last 3-4 years with a Daughter who has an eating disorder and was and still is periodically under Karen’s care. First off I want to say that someone was looking after my Daughter when we happened to find Karen Siegel and her expertise with eating disorders. With Karen’s nurturing, intelligent and positive counsel my Daughter was able to continue high school. Her staying in high school paid off with her going on to a College of her choice and away from her home environment to live on her own.
Prior to Karen, we tried a controlled hospital environment in one of the “best Children’s hospital” with an eating order program. That was a disaster! The staff judged improvement merely by how much weight was gained.
This is where Karen came in! No matter how down, no matter how discouraged my Daughter was about her eating disorder, parents, school and teenage situations Karen was always there to guide her through it. I do mean guide, not mandate or dictate what she should do. Karen always made my daughter feel better about herself and helped her navigate life along with her eating disorder so that she was always moving forward with a sense that things would get better! Hope and faith are two virtues so important to a child/teenager with an eating disorder. Karen always gave that to my Daughter and empowered her to take her own action
Knowing what to say, what not to say and how to say it is so important. I was definitely guilty of saying too much and trying to suggest what to eat and confront my Daughter when I was worried about her weight. This would often backfire and Karen helped us through it!
I periodically would be included in the session with my Daughter and her mom. Keeping questions and things out in the open was very important to my Daughter and Karen felt the same way. This is one of the many ways Karen built trust and a nurturing bond with her. It’s so important for a patient to feel comfortable and that their nutritionist is truly looking out for their well-being and their best interest.
I would recommend Karen to anyone with a child who has an eating disorder. Her Holistic approach is unique and a great medium for caring and helping one help one self. Also Karen definitely helps the parents through this very difficult condition/disease. Karen and her staff were very flexible with appointments and working with our family schedule.
Eventually as time went by my daughter improved. But, also in many other ways unrelated specifically to her weight gain. Karen helped my Daughter become a more mature an insightful teenager prepared for life and what she would experience in the future.
I could go on and on. All I can say is that Karen’s care was a God send for my Daughter and our Family!
Thank you for reading this testimonial and I hope that it helps in choosing Karen Siegel and her clinic for your loved one!”
Signed…… a loving, caring and involved Dad
“I met Karen in the Acupuncture without Borders Program where she is providing services to military personnel and veterans who have experienced trauma while defending our country. My program, Vets Journey Home, has hosted several soldiers with traumatic brain injuries and post traumatic stress disorder. Most of these soldiers are Karen’s patients. These soldiers talked about the great benefits of her treatment, “more calm, relaxed, better sleep with overall sense of wellbeing”.
However the greatest benefit for these soldiers has been pain management. They are all amazed at her generosity at providing this service for free. One soldier got me to sign up with Karen for help with my Viet Nam trauma. The experience has been incredible. I now know exactly what my soldiers meant. I am very grateful to her, thank her for her service to our military and highly recommend her.”

“Karen and I met long ago as our respective businesses were within the same specialty. She has since added to her expertise with her study in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. She has used her combined degrees in such a wonderful way…and it helps many who didn’t find that relief in traditional medical avenues. She is forward thinking, and not afraid to try new ways of doing things, but her creativity is based in her extensive training. I have sent many women her way who found my website, who lived in her area and who I felt would benefit from her talents, her compassion, her integrity, and her excellence. And as busy as she has been with all of these accomplishments, she has always found ways to support my work from afar. It is an honor and a pleasure to endorse Karen; I would do anything in the world to help her with anything she asked for.”

“Karen has helped me immensely in the pain management of my knees. I have had both replaced recently. She kept me walking until they could be replaced and, more importantly, she has greatly increased the effectiveness of the rehab process. The success of my new knees can be attributed to her skills. She is extremely understanding and knowledgeable; she cares about the welfare of the whole body.”

“In the fall of 2007, I visited Dr. Karen Siegel Propis for help in reducing high cholesterol. In addition to eliminating the need for statin drugs, continuing treatments have helped to alleviate and keep in check my asthma, allergy and inflammation problems. Ongoing visits are now allowing me to stay healthy and feel energetic and terrific. I will continue to recommend her services to family and friends.”
Dorothy M. Breedlove, August 2009
After more than 19 years of pain in my knees, back, neck, legs and hips, I found Karen Siegel Propis, who gave me relief and a more normal life without pain. I have been helped by Karen for over 4 years now, not only for pain, but for stress, insomnia, sinus, intestinal, urinary problems, as well as hot flashes.
My most famous story that I tell about Karen is how I was on the table, with Karen putting in needles for pain, when she saw me have a hot flash. She put one needle near my elbow and the hot flash disappeared, never to occur again! Of course, when I tell this story, I have to tell everyone that it probably won’t take one visit for their hot flashes to disappear, because I had been seeing Karen for over two years at that time.
For many years my pain was so intense, that often my husband had to help me roll out of bed in the mornings to go to work. My children and husband watched me struggle to go up staircases, slowly and in horrific pain – I would have to stop frequently to catch my breath from the pain. I would wake up at night, thinking an ice pick was stabbing me in the knees or hips.
I went to many doctors and tried many medications, but all to no avail. There were doctors that told me some of my pain was in my head – those painful spots all over my body, were finally diagnosed as fibromyalgia. Later, some of the pain was diagnosed as arthritis and spinal stinosis.
In April 2004, I saw Karen’s advertisement and made an appointment immediately. This was one of the best decisions of my life, and my husband will agree. Not only is she a good listener, but happy, compassionate, sincere and calming. I love going to see Karen, because I know I will feel better when I leave. I have used many of the Chinese herbs over the years (no more prescriptions for pain) and trust Karen implicitly. She puts the needles in, after I tell her where it hurts or whatever is bothering me, and leaves me to rest. Usually I feel like I’m floating, not feeling my body, and take a little nap. Sandra, her right-hand, looks in on me sometimes and also makes me feel so cared for. It took quite some time, but I have little pain anywhere now and have a full life of travel and volunteering. I am so thankful I took that first step and met Karen. I tell everyone that she saved my life.
