Chinese medicine in the United States treats just about everything that western medicine treats with the exception of cancer and broken bones. Chinese medicine complements western medicine beautifully. Ms. Siegel Propis is your advocate in getting a firm western diagnosis and frequently works in tandem with medical doctors and psychotherapists.

The Acupuncture and Nutrition Clinic specializes in the following areas:

  • Chinese Acupuncture is a more than 2000 year-old Chinese system of healing that places very fine needles in strategic areas of the body to promote healing of its unhealthy parts. The flow of Qi (chee) and blood through established channels or meridians in the body is stimulated by placing a small needle in a specific area to bring more Qi and blood to the painful area. • Pain Management – Pain is the body’s way of saying something is not right and needs attention. This is invaluable for you the patient. Conversely, pain can diminish mobility, productivity and the ability to enjoy life freely. Orthopedic doctors often refer their patients to Siegel Propis with sciatica, knee problems, shoulder and/or back pain who are looking for alternatives to strong medications and surgery. For more information please click on Pain Management.
  • Program to Treat Active Soldiers and Veterans – Siegel Propis offers treatment on a donation basis to active soldiers and retired war veterans who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which includes symptoms such as insomnia, balance problems, headaches, and pain from injuries sustained while in military service.
Project Victory is a privately funded, free program that works with military personnel and veterans of recent military service, who have screened positively for or have been diagnosed with mild to severe traumatic brain injury or post concussive symptoms while in combat or stateside. Ms. Siegel Propis is working with Project Victory to provide nutrition counseling and acupuncture as part of an aggressive treatment, which also includes cognitive, physical and behavioral rehabilitation. The project is administered by TIRR Memorial Hermann. (www.tirrfoundation.org)
  • Depression – Depression is the most common of behavioral disorders. It is estimated that nearly 30 million Americans suffer from the often debilitating disease and is, in fact, one of the 15 leading causes of disability in developed countries. It is widely believed that depression interferes with the body’s response to chronic and significant stress, which can make situations seem overwhelming or insurmountable. For more information please click on Acupuncture and Depression.
  • Prostate – Between ages 40 and 59, 60% of men already encounter an enlarged prostate or benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). Seventy five percent of men near age 60 have this condition. Only one in five men at the age of 80 or older will not incur BPH. Many men may not have any symptoms at the beginning, but when the gland enlarges enough it can result in a gradual squeezing of the urethra and cause a weak urinary stream, difficulty starting urination, frequent urination and frequently awakening at night to urinate. • Menopausal Symptoms – Menopause (also called the change of life or climacteric) is an event common to all women, but each woman’s menopausal experience is unique. As they reach this transition in life, many women are looking for alternative approaches to their body’s changes. Acupuncture has been used to treat menopausal symptoms for more than two thousand years. For more information please click on Acupuncture and Menopause.
  • Stress Relief – Stress is now identified with failures in the body. In other words, our ability or inability to handle stress manifests in the body. Much of the work of Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah’s now famous TV doc who also went to Harvard, Wharton and University of Pennsylvania, focuses on this very idea. Chronic stress produces excess cortisol and adrenalin in the body, which has a negative physical effect. Cortisol creates worry or fear and vigilance, which produces anxiety. Adrenalin or the fight-or-flight hormone physically prepares the body to react to a threat. Overproduction of these hormones will often interfere with the body’s ability to react to stress. In many people, stress often leads to over eating as well. For more information please click on Acupuncture and Stress.
