Karen Siegel

Acupuncturist Houston TexasKaren Siegel, MPH, MS, RD, LD, LAc, a Nutritionist and Acupuncturist Houston Texas, and her associates at Acupuncture & Nutrition Clinic, take the concept of healing patients at a deeper level – literally.

Since receiving her Board Certification and Texas Licensure, she has expanded her nutrition consulting practice to include Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices of acupuncture and herbal therapy.

Additionally, Ms. Siegel has the added advantage of being the only Registered and Licensed Dietitian in Texas who can integrate principles of Western dietetics and Chinese food therapy with acupuncture and herbal formulations. In addition, she was appointed in 2008 by Governor Rick Perry to sit on the Texas State Board of Examiners for Acupuncturists and is a member on the Ethics and Licensure committees on that State Board.

For more than 20 years, Ms. Siegel has specialized in the treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and compulsive eating.

As one of the first dietitians in Texas to pioneer nutritional treatment of this difficult disorder, she gained national and international recognition with TV and radio appearances, as well as with her educational seminars in the U.S, England and Israel.

In addition she has co-hosted an Internet talk show called Healthy Talk, which explored different avenues to health care including the incorporation of alternative medicine alongside traditional western medicine. Once again, Ms. Siegel is trailblazing new territory as she is using her skills in Chinese Medicine with the treatment of eating disorders.

Since incorporating TCM into her practice, Ms. Siegel has been successful in treating a wide variety of emotional and physical problems using acupuncture and herbal medicine.

She employs various strategies of TCM to help patients overcome acute and chronic problems with:

  • Pain
  • Symptoms of menopause
  • Menstrual difficulties
  • Digestive problems
  • Depression
  • Emotional instability
  • Alcohol and smoking withdrawal

In addition, Ms. Siegel receives great pleasure in treating soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and offers her services to the Texas Institute for Rehabilitation and Research who help soldiers integrate back to American life. She is a strong advocate of working with a team and often refers patients to medical doctors, psychotherapists or for physical therapy.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Siegel earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Vermont.

She completed her internship at the University of Texas, Houston and received a Masters in Public Health degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston.

She attended the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine where she received a Masters of Science Degree in Oriental Medicine.
